Matthew 25:31-46 #2

Matthew 25:31-46 #2
This text is a plain, straightforward description of Judgment Day. How complicated men have made this subject! And yet, Jesus lays before us some very simple facts about that day.
1. Everyone, good and evil alike, will stand before the Lord and they will be divided, the righteous on one side and the wicked on the other.
2. Though there are more deciding factors than what Jesus lists here, one of the primary points of judgment will be how we treated our fellow brethren. Did we care for them when in need, whatever the need? This is the only way that we can claim that we would have done the same for Jesus.
3. Hell is described as an “eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Nothing in scripture ever suggests that God prepared hell for man. Hell was prepared for these wicked beings who rebelled from the Lord at some point in eternity. But when men follow their rebellious ways, they will also follow them to their doom.
4. The most horrible words that will have ever been heard are, “Depart from Me.”
5. Hell will last as long as heaven. The same word “eternal” is used for both heaven and hell. Though some versions translate “everlasting,” the same Greek word is used for both. Therefore hell is not temporary. It is an eternal punishment.
